My Music

I have always been interested in music. I have been able to channel my passion for music towards writing classical compositions, as well as writing songs. I invite you to check out my works, and some of my other musical interests.

Bio

Violist

String quartet "Take Five", 1992.

I played the violin as a kid, but transitioned to viola in High School. The viola is more aligned with my character, and I truly love the warm sonorities of the instrument. I played in a few symphony orchestras, but I developed a real passion for chamber music. During my college years I founded a string quartet with a few friends, which we called “Take Five”. We played classical pieces, arrangements, and some original works as well. It was tons of fun.

Composer

I started writing classical music -in earnest- during my string quartet years. After a hiatus of a few decades, I took up this activity again, now aided by the composition software Sibelius. I first revised some of my old compositions, then finished some unfinished pieces, and finally started composing new works. Several of my works are currently being played and recorded by a quartet of wonderful musicians. Learn more about my compositions.

Singer/Songwriter

Wilbert playing at Five Star.

During my college years I was looking for new ways to express myself, beyond what I was able to do on my viola. Listening to Neil Young play his songs with deep emotional meaning inspired me to start writing my own songs. Never aspiring to be a virtuoso, I learned enough guitar to help my songs come to life. Playing and recording our music with a couple of friends stimulated my development as a singer/songwriter.

Later I had the opportunity to play for life audiences, in burger joints, and even at my own wedding. Learn more about my songs.
